Tuesday Night at the Movies
May 28
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
Two drag queens and a transsexual performer get a cabaret gig in the middle of the desert. Where else are you going to see General Zod (Stamp); Agent Smith from Matrix and Elrond from the Lord of the Rings trilogy (Weaving); and the guy from Memento and the upcoming Iron Man 3 (Pearce) as drag queens stranded in the Australian Outback? Heart-wrenching at times, this flamboyant road movie with fabulous frocks is a campy cult classic.
Social Cycle
Tuesdays at 6pm. Relaxed ride. All are welcome. Meet at the LIKEME Lighthouse parking lot.

LIKEME® Lighthouse Book Group
Starts March 2nd 2pm. The first read: The Cross in the Closet by Timothy Kurek.
Timothy Kurek, raised within the confines of a strict, conservative Christian denomination in the Bible Belt, Nashville, Tennessee, was taught the gospel of separation from a young age. But it wasn’t long before Timothy’s path and the oMutside world converged when a friend came out as a lesbian, and revealed she had been excommunicated by her family.
Distraught and overcome with questions and doubts about his religious upbringing, Timothy decided the only way to empathize and understand her pain was to walk in the shoes of very people he had been taught to shun. He decided to come out as a gay man to everyone in his life, and to see for himself how the label of gay would impact his life.
In the tradition of Black Like Me, The Cross in the Closet is a story about people, a story about faith, and about one man’s “abominable” quest to find Jesus in the margins.

2012 Closes – Good Things to Come
The Lighthouse was renovated, opened and operated last year with dollars exclusively from outside Kansas City. We now thank all those individuals, organizations and corporations from Kansas City that will now support their very own community center. We will continue to improve services and resources we provide to the greater metropolitan area of Kansas City.
2012 Dinner of Note
Heartland Men’s Chorus and the LIKEME® Lighthouse co-sponsored this year’s Dinner of Note to benefit the LIKEME(r) Lighthouse. What an event it was! The entire evening was a great success, and the attendees raised $48,875 to go to the Lighthouse, 3909 Main St, KCMO 64111.
The entire group of volunteers, Board Members, and staff at the Lighthouse would like to thank all the volunteers, singers, and supporters of Heartland Men’s Chorus for such a generous gesture.
The Chorus sang a song from Chely Wright’s last CD entitled, “Like Me”. It was a very emotional rendition, since this particular song was a journey many in the crowd had taken. Chely Wright joined us to inspire, and to remind us all of how important it is to have an LGBT community center in every city. Chely sang several songs for the audience, some funny and some poignant.
The LIKEME Lighthouse feels that the Dinner of Note helped us turn a corner. Kansas City showed they want us to keep that Center open and providing resources to the community. Thank you, and please come to visit if you haven’t been by yet. We’re open 7 days a week, Noon to 8PM Monday thru Saturday, and Noon to 6PM on Sunday.

Room Rental Rates Coming in 2013
Effective January 1, 2013, the rate to rent meeting rooms at the Lighthouse will be $20/hour for the big meeting room, and $10/hour for the other meeting rooms.
However, a new membership program for LGBT organizations will be coming which will allow for free or discounted rates on meeting rooms.
A membership of $120 per year will allow your organization one free meeting per month. Additional meetings in the same month will be discounted to half price.
Detailed information on membership programs will be forthcoming shortly.
We were proud to provide meeting rooms for free during our first year, and have set our new rates at a bare minimum to defray expenses.
